Tracey Webster
Tracey Webster is a graduate ofWesleyHigh School. She has been volunteering for three years at Youth Enhancement Services (YES), which is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering young women to lead independent, secure, and fulfilling lives through education, skills training, advocacy and outreach in Belize. Tracey considers herself a leader and believes that GOJoven will give her the skills and tools to implement her collaborative leadership to her fullest potential.Tracy aspires to receive a Bachelors Degree in English Education so that she could be a part of the proposal writing committee in order to secure funds for the sustainability of the GOJoven Belize Program.
Michael Audinett
Michael Audinett, Michael is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and is an active member of his community. Michael has been a volunteer for the Red Cross since he was 13 years old and has a passion for helping people. He continues to volunteer with the Belize Red Cross and is a trained volunteer in the National Intervention Team against Natural Disasters at an Emergency Operation Center E.O.C.
Michael has the drive and determination to make change for the benefit of his country and his longer-term goal is to attain a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He is a strong leader among his peers and always keeps a positive attitude. Michael is certain that GOJoven will give him the skills necessary to continue growing in the area of SRH.
Derrick Pitts
Derrick Pitts is a licensed evangelist inBelize City and a representative of UNFPA, a member of Youth Advocacy Group (YAG) who also collaborates with Youth for the Future as a counselor and a motivational speaker. Derrick has persevered difficult life experiences that have made him change his view about life and he is determined to share this vision with his fellow young Belizeans. He is the founder and leader of Ablaze Boys Ministry, which provides counseling and sexual and reproductive health education to a group of 50 young men. He has already seen some success in his leadership via the young men in his Boys Ministry who have made strides in their academic development and leadership. Derrick hopes to one day lead a congregation and complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology.
Lliani Castellanos
Lliani Catellanos is currently an outreach volunteer at Tikkun OlamBelize, a newly established organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Commercial Sex workers in Orange Walk District and in all ofBelize. Since she was a teenager, Liani has been working or volunteering with a number of Organizations such as: Pan American Social Marketing Organization (PASMO) as a sex educator, the National Drug Abuse Control Council (NDACC) in Orange Walk, and Youth for the Future.
Lliani was also a Peer Helper at her alma mater,MufflesHigh School, and holds an Associate Degree in General Studies with a concentration in Sociology fromMufflesJunior College. She hopes to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Social Sciences in the near future. Lliani has a passion for the work she does in her community and is certain that the GOJoven Program is giving her the opportunity to develop and use her leadership skills to the fullest capacity possible.
Mia Quetzal
Mia Quetzal identifies herself as a transgender woman who was born male but lives her life as a woman. She holds an Associates Degree and has worked with the Red Cross and BFLA as a peer educator. She supports PASMO by conducting some of their surveys with at-risk populations and she is the Coordinator of a transgender group that advocates for their basic human rights at national and regional levels in the Caribbean. She also is a volunteer with UNIBAM, an organization that works for the rights of the LGBT community in Belize and she is a volunteer with VOICE in the Orange Walk area that advocates for the rights of the elderly. Mia’s advocacy for improving sexual and reproductive health lies in her desire to give a voice to transgender people as well as immigrant sex workers in SRH policies and program implementation. In the future, Mia sees a career for herself in nursing or working media and she hopes that GOJoven will help take her public speaking skills to the next level so that her voice can be heard even more clearly.
Ziedi Zac
Ziedi is a young mother who believes that there is a huge unmet need for sexual and reproductive health education and outreach in her community and she personally identifies herself with that situation. Ziedi holds an Associate Degree in Accounting and is a Computer and English Teacher at a night school in her community. She has always had a passion for helping other young mothers like herself to reach their educational goals; she has worked at a rehab center in her district. She hopes to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science so that she can better contribute to the health and wellbeing of young people and the environment.
Iris Carbajal Reyes
Iris Carbajal Reyes is a motivated, passionate, dynamic business lecturer atCentroEscolarMéxicoJunior College fromOrangeWalkTown. She completed her Associate’s Degree in Business at St. John’s College Junior College in 2003 and decided to further her studies at the neighboring country of Mexico at Universidad de Quintana Roo where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 2007. Iris also had the privilege of attending Appalachian State University in North Carolina, USA as part of an academic exchange program. While abroad, she specialized in studying international business programs in Management and Marketing. She has participated in several conferences and workshops on a broad range of business-related topics including small business management, leadership, entrepreneurship, and marketing.
She began her teaching career in 2008 at CEMJC, as a part of a small, young and energized staff. Inspired by her profession, she continued to further her studies at Universidad Interamericana para el Desarrollo (UNID) where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Education. She is also an entrepreneur at heart, and presently runs a small business inOrangeWalkTown. She has been working with the CEMJC community ever since, and is actively participating in leadership programs that can help her to promote youth development and awareness in our society. Her strong educational background, experience, and passion for business and teaching make her a strong competent team player
Marla Magaña
Marla is youth volunteer leader with 4H and Youth for the Future and will be be initiating her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science at University of Belize next year. She is very passionate about the environment and has led several conservation campaigns and SRH education in her native Progreso Village. She has assisted YFF in conducting sessions for young people and is a member of the GOJoven Hummingbirds—a youth group established by the 2009 Belize Team’s LAP.
Marla aspires to become a wildlife biologist, journalist, and photographer. Her dream job is to work with National Geographic and give voice to her interest in women’s rights within environmental issues. She hopes to gain more skills as a member of GOJoven and work towards positive change in sexual and reproductive health and the environment for the youth of her community.
Osvaldo Cantun
Osvaldo Cantun is a recent graduate ofCentroEscolarMexicoJunior College, where he graduated as valedictorian and with an Associate’s Degree in Biology. Osvaldo became passionate about sexual and reproductive health issues as a member of the GOJoven Hummingbirds—a youth group that was established in Corozal as part of the GOJoven 2009 Belize Team’s LAP. Osvaldo is also very interested in conservation was an active member of the environmental club at his school. He sees himself as a leader because he always takes the initiative to guide his peers but believes that the participation of the entire group is always the key to success.Osvaldo hopes to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Environmental Science and plans to become a teacher in the future so that he can inspire other youth.
Errol Longsworth
Errol Longsworth is 27 years old and is currently the Outreach Case Officer at the National Drug Abuse Control Council (NDACC) assigned to the Corozal District. Although he is currently working full-time, Errol would like to continue to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Social Work at theUniversity ofBelize. Errol has been a volunteer with UNICEF and also with Youth for the Future (YFF) as a youth leader. He has also participated in a number of activities and trainings with Alliance Against AIDS (AAA) and a number of Denomination Youth Groups.
Errol‘s belief that every young person deserves a second chance, fuels his work with at-risk youth as a Youth Facilitator. Before Errol was employed by NDACC he was a volunteer with the organization for nine years. He envisions his future including work in an organization focused on youths or working with UNICEF. He has a heart for volunteerism and will always give up his time to assist anyone or any organization
