Nancy Leiva is a vibrant youth leader in Corozal District, who was 26 years old when she was selected as a GOJoven Fellow. She has been a Social Science Lecturer at Centro Escolar México Junior College in the Corozal District since 2004 when she obtained a Bachelors Degree in English from the University of Belize. In 2008, Nancy completed her Masters degree in Social Sciences applied to Regional Studies with a specialization in Gender Violence at the University of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Nancy is the president of the GOJoven Belize Alumni Association (GOBELIZE) Board of Directors a newly established NGO. As part of her profession, Nancy is in constant interaction with youth and focuses on instilling values in young people so that they take up the challenge of playing active roles in their communities. As a young leader, Nancy’s short term goals include dedicating her time to her teaching profession, continuously working with GoJoven on a volunteer basis and travelling to learn more about people and life on a whole. She is also very determined to encourage women to take on greater leadership roles in Belizean society, lead independent lives and exercise their sexuality responsibly. Her future plans include pursuing a Doctorate Degree in an area related to SRH and ensuring that GOBelize is a leading and stable organization in Belize. She believes that with a solid foundation and continuous training in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health, she will be a great force in the revolution to improve the sexual health of Belizean women and men.
