Thelma Isabel López Oxlaj

Thelma is originally from the Rancho de Teja Village of the municipality of San Francisco El Alto in Totonicapán. She was selected as a GOJoven Guatemala Fellow when she was 23 years old. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Letters and Science with a focus on computers, and is currently working in the organization PIES as a facilitator providing information on sexual and reproductive health to groups of young people in her community. She is also a volunteer at Paz Joven Guatemala. Thelma believes that it is important to focus on preventing young people and adolescents’ high risk of early pregnancies, familial violence, incest, discrimination towards identities, and gender inequality. She is committed to helping the youth in her community and in Guatemala by spreading information from the Integral Education in Sexuality. Her primary goal is to dispel the myths, taboos and sociocultural patterns that prevent the growth and leadership of each young person in religious and political work environments.
