Mateuh is originally from San Felipe, La Antigua Guatemala. He was selected as a GOJoven Guatemala Fellow when he was 19 years old. He belongs to the Association of Indigenous Development Yepocapa, which looks after collective integral development in the municipality of San Pedro Yepocapa Chimaltenango. The association’s scope of work includes training community authorities, providing entrepreneurship programs, working to strengthen rights (i.e. gender equality, prevention of violence), and hosting dental days, among others. Through his participation in the association and in other youth issue and social issue-centered spaces, he has been able to develop positive leadership skills while helping to spread general knowledge of his topics of interest.
